Roads and Cars

World Rabbit

From Marc Johns.

If you enjoy rabbits, perhaps you will enjoy the Book of Bunny Suicides as well.

Those Were the Days

I so wanted these when I was a whippersnapper...

Now that I look at it, oddness abounds. He can see his hand bones, thus the odd, lip-less grin.
Why is the buxom blond all jazz hands?

UPDATE: Maybe she's just happy for him.
"Oh, look, you lip-less bastard! You can finally get that job as a radiologist that you've always wanted. Joy!"

People, Let Me Tell Ya 'Bout My Best Friend

Kera, a new lowland gorilla who has arrived at the Bristol Zoo, has taken to her new surroundings and keepers with aplomb.

The cuteness factor is tremendous. Check out the original story for more wonderful photos.

Never Know Enough

Did you know that Mel Blanc (the voice of Bugs Bunny) was allergic to carrots?

Alone, Again

(photo of Fellini)

The reader, the thinker, the flaneur, are types of illuminati just as much as the opium eater, the dreamer, the ecstatic. … Not to mention that most terrible drug - ourselves - which we take in solitude.

Flippity Flop

Time until I board a cramped plane, sit for hours and then unload myself into Baltimore for almost a week of chaos and frivolity is mere weeks away. Yet, I am distracted.

Mostly, by the image to the left.

Removal of unwanted, "weird" spiderwort from a garden bed (I get paid to do this) caused a swarm of yellow jackets to envelope me and a co-worker despite our running away and screaming.

She got them stuck in her shirt. My crew stung my left arm and got stuck in my hair. They buzzed and stung until my sister donned gloves and pulled them out. Um, ow.

Here is my arm after the first days swelling, to the right.

At it's peak, 5 1/2 inches of my arm was angry, burning sting ring. Oh, and let me also mentioned how goddamned itchy an itch can be when scritched from a bitch of a bee.

Then, um, my internets went down for a while. It was rather blissful, really. No emails. No frantic political news. No impossible attempts to keep up with everyone's blogs. Instead, I read, watched the first season of Dark Angel and cleaned. Oh, the unmitigated joy!

I await a torrential downpour with a light heart and a receding sting ring....

Namaste

This day

The best post I've seen on what this day, September 11, has become.

Anyone who is on a crusade in the name of their religion that asks them to kill others of a differing religion, remember - it isn't God or any of the his representatives as you to kill. It is another human being. The people moving the pieces that we all ultimately are on the board are no where near the bullets and bombs.

This day has me remembering every person that has died just to be a number, to make a point, to create a temporary sense of vengeance or winning. Another day that has me questioning why people declare themselves a part of the human race with some sense of pride. I feel shame and horror.

Great Odin help us,

....it's bacon flavored vodka.

“Everything is better with bacon. It’s one of my favorite foods,” said Don Yovicsin, the owner of Jake’s Dixie Roadhouse in Waltham, MA. “So when one of my friends mentioned the idea of bacon and vodka, it piqued my curiosity.”

Don looks as though he's had some bacon flavored energy drinks.

UPDATE: How to make a bacon flavored Old Fashioned.

The Annual Banned Books Week and the RNC

To an article on why fellow POW's won't vote for John McCain

"No one should ever sit in this office over 70 years old, and that I know" -- Dwight D. Eisenhower

To an article on why fellows Alaskans won't vote for Sarah Palin

To a post via Time Magazine in which Palin supposedly asks how to go about banning books in a local library

To the annual Banned Books Week of 2008

Ta da!

This from me, a former somewhat fan of McCain who now lifts a middle digit when ever she sees him. This same me that refers to myself in the third person.

"It wasn't a very nice spider."

Whilst picking up bananas to stock at the Co-op in Wayfield Road, Chatham, Kent, Kate Whitmore, 25, picked up the the highly venomous and quite creepy Phoneutria nigriventer along with the tasty treat.

"I held it close to my face and thought, 'What is that?' she said. "It wasn't a very nice spider."

The Co-op in Wayfield Road, Chatham, Kent had to be closed on Monday while the RSPCA dealt with the spider.
