Silence

"If an ordinary person is silent, it may be a tactical manoeuvre. If a writer is silent, he is lying."

Jen,

But I'm quite frequently silent.

Well, I know that isn't the only reason a writer would be silent. There are ultimately many reason for the eerie silence that does occur when hanging with a writer.

1.) Thinking about next book.

2.) Hung Over.

3.) Asleep with eyes open.

4.) In deep meditative state.

5.) Trying to think of something to out clever everything their companions have previously said.

6.) They've forgotten who you are and are too damned embarrassed to say anything.

Jen,

I can answer to all of the above, from time to time, but most often the last.
