Many will try

Few will succeed.

In making cover songs work.

What are your worst cover songs?

For me it's Rod Stewart doing Tom Waits 'Downtown Train'.

Annie Lennox did a passable version but Rod's is just offensive.

Rain Dogs. The Master expounding.

Patty Smyth from Scandal also did a cover of Downtown Train. Natile Merchents Because the Night is also revolting and wrong

Mine's mentioned: Candle In The Wind (Lady Di version) -- Elton John covering Elton John

Not only was it a horrible, horrible song, but it was a desperately crass and tacky thing to do.

Yes!

'Because the Night' should not be sung while grinning!

'Candle in the Wind' felt like Elton's way of saying 'Hmmm, how can I best capitalize on my friends death?'

Oops, that's me off his Christmas card list!

I have many of these, enough to fill my own post (someday). But here's one:

Whomever allowed Madonna to cover American Pie should banned from the music business for life. Some things are just sacred.
