#8 Struck a chord with this jaded viewer: Should you wish to pass yourself off as a German officer, it will not be necessary to learn to speak German. Simply speaking English with a German accent will do. Similarly, when they are alone, all German soldiers prefer to speak English to each other.

Heh! Reminds me of the "official" Star Trek explanation of why the Klingons speak English, even to other Klingons: the high ranking ones speak English among themselves so the low ranking phaser fodder won't overhear them and won't know what's going on unless they have a need to know.
And I though love was the only interstellular language.
