On the Verge

Sitting on my desktop is a new mini Dell computer. Cute, small and black - and up to the challenge of what I put a computer through on a daily basis. My old girl isn't happy. She makes some amazingly high pitched squeals on occasion and too much time online gives her the vapors.

She's got a Pentium II chip and an antiquated motherboard that is completely incompatible with anything manufactured after the year 2000. And she's huge! A veritable behemoth of a machine!

Matilda has served me well as is evidenced by the massive amount of files I've spent the last day and a half readying for the great file exchange. The earliest tweakings of my book are in there as are some very old emails that hold a lot of sentimental value. It's been a strange excavation into my written past.

Ironically, just as I've readied the new girl, I have to leave to catsit Jon and Ruth's cats over the weekend.

We'll have to bond later.

Huh, you should see my old AMD K6-2 built from spare parts. Something only a parent could love, although I'm trying to resurrect it as a proxy/gateway.
